The Ugly Side of Dreams

Isn’t that a great title! This is my first blog. I am new to Facebook as of 9 months ago. Twitter and linked in a month ago. Now I am blogging. It’s another great adventure of possibilities.
The ugly side of dreams is an article I am in the process of writing that refers to the unknown prices we will have to pay to make dreams happen. I recently made some of the toughest decisions I have ever made involving friendships and the business of Klemmer & Associates Leadership Seminars Inc. I had no idea I would have to make those kinds of decisions when I started Klemmer & Associates.
It has caused me to reflect on other prices I have had to pay for any dream I have had. My wife and I just celebrated our 25th anniversary. To make an exciting intimate relationship last that long I have been challenged and stretched and paid prices that never crossed my mind when I proposed.

Overcoming resistance
When I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ as both my Lord and Savior I never suspected that my biggest critics would be Christians not non-believers. When I enrolled at the United States Military Academy in 1968 to serve my country I knew I would have physical challenges but I had no idea of dealing with drug addicts returning from Vietnam who were good people or having a gun held to my head by someone in our army.
Maybe it’s good that we don’t know all the prices up front or we probably would not start or follow very many dreams. At the same time there seems to be a need to prepare people that nothing in life comes free. When we start a dream we are infatuated with possibilities which are good. I think we also need to have someone as a mentor who toughens us up for the onslaught of resistance we will meet.
I have often said that “nothing great becomes great without overcoming great resistance”. So share your thoughts with me on a dream you have and prices you paid to get there that you had no idea you would encounter when you signed up for the dream. Click here to leave your story.

The ugly side of dreams
“true Story”
short version
A beautiful spring morning I took our male donkey jake for a walk as we took our journey down the road listing to mother natures orchestra we went by the new neighbors who seemed to be well settled and had all things they wanted. As we moved on I could see Bill and Sues place they were older neighbors kids grown and moved on. As jake and I approached I could see Bill digging in the back of the house so I had jake walk up to see what was Bill up to. As I greeted Bill he crawled out of hole about 5ft deep. He explained he always dreamed an old fashioned well. I asked if I could help and he explained that would be great since he had to go into town and take of some business. He told me the water witch said there was water down about 30ft. He said there is a ladder rope pail and a shovel do what you can and he would be back later. I jumped in started digging. As the morning past the digging went very easy. I could smell what seemed like sue baking cookies. I could remember the times she would bring us some to eat. They were good. I was getting warm thirsty and hungry as I figured it to be around noon. I was working hard getting deeper in the ground no water yet Jake was working hard pulling the pails out for me. I guessed I was about 20 ft down as the ladder was 25ft long. Just the Sue a appeared with a sandwich milk and cookies. She talk as I eat. She said was leaving for work and I needed anything the house was open. I climbed back down started digging hit clay then some rock boy the digging was very hard know I was tired and not getting very deep I guessed just over 25ft. I chipped away for about 2 more ft just dampness no water I was tired and climbed out I told jake there is no water I’m tired and we should go home. Just then Jake jumped into the hole just enough for him to fit. I didn’t know what to do. I tried to pull him with the rope the rope broke I couldn’t get the ladder down past him. Bill was not home nobody at my house or any one as far I could see. I got made at jake I gave up started to dirt on top of him third shovel I put on him he shook of the dirt and stop his hoofs. I kept shoveling and he would shake and stomp. I filled the hole as fast as I could. He final was able to get himself out. I was exhausted I went to rap my arms around him and he tossed his head throwing me to the ground and took big bite out of my butt.
The moral of the story: If you try to cover your ass it will come back to bite you.
As life tends to be easy and hard I have learned many lessons from this story.
This story has many meanings and everyone’s journey is different. The choices I have made has created my story in the circle of life.
God Bless
